The Flower Plantation

Nora Brown

After graduating from the Royal Academy of Music in 2001 Nora worked as an assistant for several high profile individuals in the arts. In 2005 she headed to medical school. It was there, hiding novels in anatomy textbooks, that she discovered her real ambition – to be a writer. A chance encounter with an old school friend in 2010 resulted in a trip to Rwanda. Numerous adventures to the continent later she has the outline of three novels, the first of which is The Flower Plantation.

The Way to a Man’s Heart

Jane Hayward

Jane Hayward’s writing career was launched with a ‘bottom right hand corner’ letter in The Times.  Her writing won her lunch with Anita Shreve and a novel pitch at an Art’s Council funded publishing event launched by Spread the Word. Shortlisted for both Radio 4’s Afternoon Story and a Bluechrome internet story competition, she has a horror story published in Dark Tales and a poem in the anthology A Track of Light, published by Chichester University.  With an MA in Creative Writing, Jane is currently seeking the interest of an agent in her new novel.

Grumpy Xmas

Peter Crockett

After graduating from Hull University with a reasonable degree in French Language and Literature, I did a number of jobs: baker, firefighter, labourer, teacher, carer, plumber, youth worker and probation officer. The most exciting? No guesses. Firefighter. People never plan to be in a burning building; when the smoke clears, you see lives in their naked rawness. I guess a snapshot into that rawness kindled the author in me. I put down the hose and took up the pen. The dark side of humanity fascinates - there’s a murderer lurking in all of us.

Lightship Short Lists Posted

Posted on: 21 Sep 2011

Well done to all those talented writers who made it through to the Lightship short lists! Sorry for the slight delay in posting the results. We wanted to notify all writers on the short lists personally and confirm they were happy to have their names listed.

All those on the Short Story, Poetry and Flash Fiction lists and the winner of First Chapter will be published in The Lightship Anthology (due to be launched 15 October 2011). The hard copy of the anthology will cost £6.99. If you buy 3 copies, we'll give you one free. If you buy 6 copies, we'll give you 2 free. If you buy 9 copies we'll give you 3 free. They will make great Xmas and birthday pressies and are a very agreeable form of boasting about your talent to everyone you know. If you would like to reserve copies of the anthology (published by Alma Books) please email: admin@lightshippublishing.co.uk

Lightship will also be producing a Kindle ebook version of the anthology, price tbc.

The overall winners in all our four competitions will be notified of the judges' decisions in due course.

Thank you for entering.
