Born in Halifax, Yorkshire, and educated at King's College, Cambridge, Lindsay Clarke worked in further and higher education for many years before becoming a full-time writer. He is the author of 8 novels, 4 radio plays, a re-telling of Celtic myths, and a chapbook of poems. His second novel, The Chymical Wedding, won the Whitbread Fiction Prize in 1989.
Lindsay has been Writer-in-Residence and a long-term Associate of the MA Creative Writing Programme at Cardiff University and has taught many courses for the Arvon Foundation. He was the director of two conferences on mythology at Dartington and has worked closely with the Pushkin Trust in Northern Ireland. He also runs a writing workshop in London, and has lectured widely in England and abroad. His new novel, The Water Theatre, will be published by Alma Books in 2010.
