Andrew Crumey won the Northern Rock Foundation Writers Award for his most recent novel Sputnik Caledonia, which was also shortlisted for the James Tait Black Memorial Prize and Scottish Book of the Year. His other novels include Mobius Dick (a finalist for the Commonwealth Writers Prize) and Mr Mee (longlisted for the Booker Prize and IMPAC Award, winner of a Scottish Arts Council book award).

He was literary editor of Scotland On Sunday from 2000 to 2006, and has written for the Guardian, Independent, Telegraph, Financial Times and other newspapers. He has been a Distinguished Fellow of Durham Institute of Advanced Study, and is lecturer in creative writing at Newcastle University.
